Set up your Profil Zaufany, step by step
Answer three questions and we’ll show you the fastest route to a Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany) — the signature you need to file in MOS or apply for the CUKR card.
Do you have a PESEL number?
A PESEL (PESEL UKR counts) is mandatory — you can’t create a Profil Zaufany without one.
Profil Zaufany for foreigners — what to know
A Profil Zaufany is a free electronic identity issued by the Polish state. It lets you sign and file documents online in MOS (residence applications and the CUKR card), ZUS, the e-Tax Office, e-Delivery and ePUAP. For most foreigners it’s the only realistic, free way to sign a MOS application.
What you need — whatever the method
A PESEL number
PESEL UKR counts. Without a PESEL you can’t create a Profil Zaufany.
A valid ID document
A passport is enough.
A Polish SIM card
SMS login codes are often unreliable on foreign numbers — buy a Polish prepaid in advance.
An e-mail address
Any working one — your login details arrive there.
Three realistic activation routes
1. Through a bank (fastest)
Have an account at a bank like PKO BP, Pekao, ING, mBank or Millennium with your PESEL linked? On pz.gov.pl choose “Banks and other providers”, log in as you would to online banking and confirm with an SMS code. Done in minutes.
2. At the municipality with PESEL UKR
If you’re applying for PESEL UKR for the first time, ask for a Profil Zaufany at the same visit — no separate form, no second trip.
3. Online form + confirmation point
Fill in the form on pz.gov.pl, then confirm your identity at a point (municipality, ZUS, tax office, NFZ). A fallback when the bank route doesn’t work.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Profil Zaufany cost?
Nothing. A Profil Zaufany is completely free and valid for 3 years. It does not renew automatically — log in before it expires and confirm renewal with an SMS code.
Can I get a Profil Zaufany without a bank account?
Yes. You can do it at a municipal office (ideally when getting PESEL UKR) or fill in the form online and confirm your identity at a confirmation point. The bank route is usually the fastest, though.
Is Revolut enough for a Profil Zaufany?
No. Revolut and foreign banks are not identity providers on pz.gov.pl. You need an account at a Polish bank (e.g. PKO BP, Pekao, mBank, ING, Santander, Millennium, Alior, BNP Paribas, VeloBank, Credit Agricole).
Why can’t my bank see my PESEL?
If you opened the account before getting your PESEL, the number may not be linked to it. Add it at a branch or via the bank’s hotline, then try again on pz.gov.pl.
Will video activation in the mObywatel app work?
For most foreigners, no — video activation requires a Polish e-ID, which foreigners don’t get. Use the bank, municipality or confirmation-point route.
What is a Profil Zaufany good for?
For MOS (residence applications and the CUKR card), PUE ZUS, the e-Tax Office, e-Delivery, ePUAP and 500+/800+ benefit applications — all online, with one signature.
